Sue's 2nd Boobie Walk - Saturday 28th June 2008 - 1pm In Fancy Dress
at the Pontygwindy Inn - Caerphilly
The five mile ‘boobie walk’ is a fundraising exercise for Breast Cancer Research at Velindre Hospital, and one that’s especially pertinent to pub manager Sue Hampton.
In November 2006 Sue was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Having undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Sue wanted to give something back.
“Quiz nights and auctions have always gone down well and we’ve raised a lot of money through them, but a ‘boobie walk’ does something else - it raises awareness"
“When I found the lump, It took me a while to do something about it. No-one had it in my family, so I wasn’t really concerned. I just didn’t think it could happen to me, but now I know differently.”
There will be a BBQ, auction, bear festival and live music at the pub to raise as much as possible for the cause. We want to beat the £4500 we raised last year. To help raise money along with Sue please download an application form.
Velindre hospital has for a long time been at the centre of fundraising activity at the pub. Staff and regulars have over the years raised an impressive amount in aid of Velindre, and Sue is hoping to raise even more with the walk.
Sue added: “The hospital is a much needed and appreciated local facility but constantly in need of funds. I’m delighted that so many customers and local residents have once again stepped forward to help us support its ongoing work.”
The walk starts and finishes at the Pontygwindy Inn. Anyone interested in taking part or contributing to the prize pot can contact the Appeals Department on 029 2031 6211.
